Titans left tackle JC Latham has had one hell of a rookie season. Although he is still in his rookie year, Latham continues to show why he is developing into a leader on and off the field. After today’s 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, JC took to twitter to talk about the Titans’ level of play.
What Latham is referring to is the controversial penalties against the Titans. Tennessee was penalized 13 times for 91 yards while Minnesota only had 3 penalties for 35 yards. The Vikings scored 16 points on drives which involved questionable calls.
The most bogus call happened in the second quarter. Titans Mike Brown delivered a great hit on Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison to cause a turnover-on-downs. That was until the refs called unnecessary roughness on Brown. The hit was clearly to the chest.
Pool Reporter Nick Suss got an explanation from referee Clete Blakeman.
I respect JC for having the mindset that he has. Players are taught to control what they can control and take accountability for their play. Although the Titans played a far from perfect game, the refs definitely changed the course of today’s game. This isn’t the first time they’ve screwed the Titans, and it damn sure won’t be the last.
The only thing we can hope for is that the Titans play well enough to overcome the foolishness of the refs. I strongly believe that the refs should be made available to the media and face the same repercussions as players and coaches when they make egregious calls that change the course of a game.
