Tennessee Titans News and Notes: August 21, 2024

As the Tennessee Titans continue their preparations for the upcoming season, several key updates emerged from today’s media session with Offensive Coordinator Brian Callahan. Titans Senior Writer/Editor Jim Wyatt provided insights from the press conference, where cameras were not permitted, but media presence was allowed.

Injury Updates

Several players will not participate in today’s practice due to injuries:

  • Kearis Jackson: The wide receiver is sidelined with a knee bruise.
  • Josh Whyle: The tight end remains in concussion protocol.
  • Jabari Small: The running back is also under concussion protocol.
  • Otis Reese: The safety is out due to a concussion.
  • TK McLendon: The defensive end will miss a couple of weeks with turf toe.

Additionally, wide receiver Mason Kinsey will be limited in practice due to a broken finger. On a positive note, Tyler Boyd has returned to practice, providing a boost to the receiving corps.

Wide Receiver Updates

Callahan discussed wide receiver Kyle Philips, who is currently dealing with a hamstring injury. Philips has shown promise, with Callahan noting, “Kyle has done some good things. We have a pretty good idea of what he’s about.” However, it is unlikely that Philips will return to practice this week.

Cornerback Caleb Farley Expected Back

Cornerback Caleb Farley, who has been nursing a hamstring injury, is expected to return to practice today. Farley’s return will be a significant boost to the Titans’ secondary as they prepare for their next game.

Special Teams and Game Preparation

Callahan confirmed that Ryan Stonehouse will handle punting duties in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. He also mentioned that the starters will play a few series, regardless of what the Saints decide to do.

In a nod to team leadership, Callahan highlighted the significance of the “C” patch on the captains’ jerseys. “I think there’s an honor in that. I think it means something to players, and it means something to me,” Callahan said, underscoring the importance of leadership within the team.
